Statement by the Artist
At age 61 years young, I’ve spent a life in the arts,
both fine and commercial. My media consists of figure
drawing in both charcoal and graphite which are the
backbone of my art, photography, digital prints and oil
paintings which are the mainstay of my expression.
My fine art work was figurative until the late eighties
when I began concentrating on portraiture. In 1994 I took a
trip to the Brittany coast of France to paint landscapes in
oils. Most recently I have been working from photographs I
took at my Crater Lake Art Residency. I’ve worked on
them in Photoshop in my computer and made archival limited
edition digical prints from them.
From 1991-96, the city of Jacksonville commissioned me to
produce five annual Christmas Paintings, to be reproduced
into a signed limited-edition prints and Christmas cards. I
worked with Mustard Press to create these prints. For each
of the last 30 years I have created and printed my own fine
arts Christmas card. The Jacksonville prints were my first
color cards. Since 1996 my cards have hearkened back to my
earlier work - a sometimes abstracted realism often with
mother and child themes. My most recent Mother and Child
image has been printed full size as an archival, limited
edition, digital print.
To date I have had 10 one person shows and been in numerous
group shows. Also, I take commissions for portraiture, fine
arts, and design
Home for me is in the Applegate, surrounded by the Rogue
River National Forest beyond the grid of electricity and
phone lines along Carberry Creek, one of the two main head
waters of Applegate Lake. Truly a lovely place to live,
create art and practice yoga and meditate.
